Military Propaganda and Police Repression at the Watsonville Job Fair

Military propaganda backed by police repression was clearly visible at the 7th Annual Job and Resource Fair that took place on May 18th at the GHWR Youth Center in Watsonville, CA. I wonder if the military was intentionally left off the flyer for the event which listed 18 agencies and employers.

Kathy Kelly, three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee for her work against a decade of sanctions against Iraq's civilian population, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Monday May 23rd at the First Congregational Church, 900 High Street, Santa Cruz. In her presentation, "Other Lands Have Dreams," Kelly will relate lessons learned from her peace witness during the first Gulf War, through the misery of twelve years of US led sanctions, to Operation Shock and Awe, and the ongoing Occupation of Iraq.

Monterey Bay Travelodge Owner Kilsoo Seo has threatened to fire "Woman of the Year" Juana Enriquez if she continues to exercise her right to talk to the media about a 10-month labor dispute over Travelodge's termination of healthcare benefits and other issues. In response, UNITE HERE Local 483 has filed unfair labor practice charges and called for a protest picket line from 12 to 1 pm THIS WEDNESDAY MAY 18 in front of the Travelodge at 2030 North Fremont Street in Monterey.

while checking out
www.indymedia.us i came across an article on new york indymedia called, "Meetup's Fees." The article says, "Meetup Inc. the social networking site started charging fees of 19/month to have their groups meet and this has led many group managers to quit as organizers."
I hope that vegans and veggies in Santa Cruz turn to more "do it yourself" methods of online organizing. In the past, meetup has been used by santa cruz veggie eaters.
