On July 9th the US Senate voted to approve the storage of nuclear waste
inside Yucca Mountain, 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas, the nation's
fastest growing city. The state of Nevada produces not one kilowatt of
nuclear energy, and not one ounce of nuclear waste. Its congressional
representatives as well as every major environmental group in the nation
have opposed the transportation to and storage of America's nuclear waste
at this site.

Senior officials in the Bush administration who have proposed the production of a new generation of nuclear weapons have scheduled a meeting to discuss plans for nuclear proliferation at US Strategic Command (STRATCOM) during the first week of August 2003. We are going to be there to say NO! Join us!

Me vine de Canada con mis ahorros, el mes de febrero pasado para buscar trabajo aqui en Acapulco. Desde que llegué no he encontrado nada, todo esta muerto. Yo debo tomar diariamente dos pastillas para controlar mi tension arterial, Adalat 30 mg y Monocor 5 mg, la segunda no existe en Mexico. Debo regresarme a Canada porque los medicamentos que me traje (por siete meses) se estan terminando y ya no tengo dinero para el boleto de avion (unos 800 $ U.S. dolares) y, aunque soy ciudadano Canadiense, el consulado Canadiense en Acapulco me niega toda ayuda. Este es un caso de vida o muerte. Pido ayuda.

After months of employee cutbacks, workers at Peet's Coffee and Tea Store #221 in Santa Cruz are seeking union representation. Employees have decided that without exercising their right to collective bargaining, their work at Peet's will never afford them personal luxury, a stable future or even a wage sufficient to support a family. Employees’ complaints include insufficient wages and hours, and shrinking benefits packages becoming ever harder to obtain. They feel Peet's should share its success with its employees.

The Break the Chains Conference will be held at the University of Oregon (Eugene, OR) from August 8 - 10. Conference organizers have now created two web boards to facilitate information-sharing around housing and transportation issues.

The University of California Board of Regents voted unanimously today in favor of a Clean Energy and Green Building policy that sets a new bar nationally for environmental leadership by any institution. This vote follows the year-long “UC Go Solar!� campaign run by students across the state and Greenpeace.
