Highlights of the afternoon included a direct action training with david solnit and a healthy meal cooked up by some TUSCers. Most of the ingredients were grown organically and donated by farms based in Watsonville.
The 4th photograph shows six members of the UCSC administration who sat around all day watching over Tent University. It seemed pretty stupid to me, so I went to get a photograph and have a little chat. I asked them if they were aware that their presence was a clear illustration UCSC's poor funding priorities. Gail Heit asked how i knew they were getting paid; so i just started laughing at them. She serious too. They were "working" and they are paid members of the UCSC administration. I also explained to Gail Heit that her threatening
emails to the TUSC list-serve and to individuals were laughable at best.
Shortly after 8pm, when free speech was supposed to end at the base of campus, an interesting debate (or discussion) took place where students and community members spoke to each-other and to members of UCSC's administration (Gail Heit and another women). The debate was an awesome part of TUSC! The women from the administration admited that the students and members of the community articulated very good reasons for staying at the base of campus, day and night, for the entire week. However, they also left saying that 'the ball was in our court' meaning that we better leave or suffer the consequences of the police. at this point, many people confirmed their desire to remain at the base of campus.
