LOCAL Announcement :: Peace & War

Kathy Kelly coming to Santa Cruz on May 23

Kathy Kelly, three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee for her work against a decade of sanctions against Iraq's civilian population, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Monday May 23rd at the First Congregational Church, 900 High Street, Santa Cruz. In her presentation, "Other Lands Have Dreams," Kelly will relate lessons learned from her peace witness during the first Gulf War, through the misery of twelve years of US led sanctions, to Operation Shock and Awe, and the ongoing Occupation of Iraq.
Kelly is a founder of Voices in the Wilderness, with which she traveled to Iraq more than 20 times. She returned from Iraq to face a federal prison sentence for her nonviolent civil disobedience at the School of the America's, the torture and assassination training ground at Fort
Benning, Georgia.

Copies of Kelly's just released book, "Other Lands Have Dreams: From Baghdad to Pekin Prison," will be available for sale and signing at the event. A $5-$20 suggested donation is asked at the door, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

For more information go to www.rcnv.org or contact the Resource Center for Nonviolence: (831) 423-1626.
