CONSUMER WONDERLAND
m. Winter Wonderland; w. Erica Avery

The TV's on / are you watching?
Another product / that they're hawking
one more thing you need
to make life complete
Welcome to Consumer Wonderland

In the stores / you will hear it
" Pricey gifts / show holiday spirit"
That's what they call it
to get to your wallet
Welcome to Consumer Wonderland

At the mall we can go out shopping
and buy lots of stuff we can't afford
we'll have lots of fun with our new toys
until we realize that we're still bored
When you shop / ain't it thrilling
until / you get the billing
the money you still owe the stuff broke long ago
Welcome to Consumer Wonderland

GOD BLESS YOU VERY WEALTHY MEN
by Arnie Alpert, AFSC, New Hampshire

God bless you very wealthy men,
Good news I have to tell:
The market's up, you're making more
each time you buy and sell.
With layoffs more, your profits soar,
You're living rather well.
O tidings of capital gains....

God bless you very wealthy men,
You never have to see
The people all around you who
must live in misery.
You keep the poor far from your door,
You know no poverty.
O tidings of capital gains....

God bless you very wealthy men,
Do you repeat this song?
You owe success to your hard work,
no one helped you along.
You've raised yourself to the top shelf;
Your bootstraps must be strong.
O tidings of capital gains. ...

God bless you poor and working folks,
I do regret to tell:
There is no safety net to catch you
if you ever fell.
Without much wealth or any health
insurance when unwell.
O tidings of capital gains....

God bless you poor and working folks
They've cut you down to size
Entitled only to those things
you can afford to buy,
When pensions, schools, and fire protection
All are privatized.
Oh tidings of capital gains...

God bless you very wealthy men,
whatever comes to pass,
You have no fear that you will be
kicked out upon your ass.
I have a feeling that your ceiling is
Not made of glass.
O tidings of capital gains....

God bless you poor and working folks,
It's time to take a stand for
Decent wages, pensions, health
Are just and right demands.
It's time to fight we must unite.
Won't you lend a hand?
O tidings of capital gains....

MY FAVORITE THINGS...corporations
m. Some of my Favorite Things

Shirts from Honduras
And Nikes from China
Clothes made in sweatshops
In North Carolina,
All wrapped in packages
And tied up with string,
These are a few of my
Least favorite things.
When the sun shines
When the snow melts
When I'm feeling glad
I simply remember
My least favorite things
And then I start getting mad.

Skirts made in Malaysia
In sweatshop conditions,
Clothes sewn in Toronto
For Northern Traditions,
All wrapped in packages
And tied up with string,
These are a few of my
Least favorite things.

When the sun shines
When the snow melts
When I'm feeling glad
I simply remember
My least favorite things
And then I start getting mad.

Re: Anti-Corporate X-mass Caroling at the GAP

Greetings Cherished Friends and Folks of Good Heart!

I came and sang carols and had a great time! Thanks to Grant for his part in this fun caroling project! It was good to see Bradley and other good friends again too. I hope to be back on Sunday (1pm at GAP) and next Wednesday (4pm at Farmer's market nearby). Come join in!

PROFITS above people is a Crime Against Humanity - and there is an epidemic of it in America!

NATIONAL AGENDA needed: Seperation of CORPORATION and STATE!

Prosecute unethical and non socially responsible corporations OR nationalize them! No more business as usual!

Do we need nation-wide 3-day general strikes?

YES! Well, in the mean time: Carolling Away!! : )

Re: Anti-Corporate X-mass Caroling at the GAP

Why are you harrassing gap and blaming anyone with money for all your problems? I know a handful of genuinely wealthy people in this area alone, who are intelligent, hard-working, self-made millionaires. They are kind, generous people who already give to local charities and participate in their community, to the extent that they choose to. Why cant you see that not all rich are evil, nor all poor innocent and noble?

Re: Anti-Corporate X-mass Caroling at the GAP

SC-IMC, Bradly and Pat-
You ROCK!!!
Yep, still two more fun filled possiblities to re-make and enliven (in-elve-in) Xmass with us.
Wednesday 4pm at the Farmers Market, 5pm in front of the GAP. Also, one more session this coming weekend (time TBA- re the schedules of wayward Santas). Stay tuned to SC-IMC and the SC-Radicalendar!

Re. the reader who wrote-"Why are you harrassing GAP and blaming anyone with money for all your problems?" Did you read the lyrics of "God Bless you Very Wealthy Men"??? Why do you assume that we percieve the world as black and white? Maybe you don't realize we are the orphan street version of the ancient court jesters and truth tellers (sadly banished long decades ago, from the halls of power). You say you "know a handful of genuinely wealthy people- in this area alone, who are intelligent, hard-working, self-made millionaires. They are kind, generous people...." Hmmm.... I know some very kind, hard working and generous poor folk, struggling to make ends meet. Life is a lot harder for them and the stereotypes perpetrated by our media culture sadly paint a far more negative image.
You can be the advocate for self-made millionaires, I'll be an advocate for poor folk. We should meet sometime, maybe at the next caroling.
Remember, humor works wonders when we're able to laugh at/with ourselves.
