Swami was incredibly funny! I happened to be walking by when the "show" started. Swami was uncannily acurate in tuning into his inner guidance and knowing the answeres to the questions before they were asked. This man is a saint. I think he is my guru. He also happens to be doing outstanding work in the community. What a shining example of political activism and spiritual consciousness!! Bravo !

We should have another event sometime soon.

It should be exactly as "disgusted" wrote about above. Everyone should come out on one Saturday and play music, juggle, blow bubbles, put out small tapasties with their jewelry and wares, and generally have a great time! This is what Santa Cruz was like 15 years ago. It was a constant festival of color and music and creativity. Now it has become sterile and boring. So if you feel the inspiration, organize it and the people will come!!!

You're so right. Last night I was walking down Pacific at 1AM, and I saw a police car prowling up and down Pacific, slowing to check me out, stopping wherever music was playing, the officer coming out and rousting the homeless musicians. One plucky guitar-player kept moving up and down the Ave, a game of cat-and-mouse with our publicly supported "protector of the peace (as I came home to my noisy neighbors partying at the top of their lungs, the irony was not lost on me)."

Personally, I'm glad to see a diminishing of the panhandling, loitering, flopping around blocking the sidewalks, drug dealing, violence, etc. etc.. Sure, there needs to be a bit of a balance but really the downtown is not meant to be some freak show where anything goes. It's generally the few that ruin it for the majority.........isn't that the way it usually is? You can constantly criticize the police, the business community, the City Council, and so on but if people just took it upon themselves to be considerate and tolerant of others there may be no need for heavy policing and laws. Unfortunately, that simply isn't the case. Reading some of the comments in here by Norse, Becky Johnson, and others it's no wonder the downtown has problems. Instead of helping to solve the problems, these folks seems to advocate causing them.
