The Coalition for Community Commons has done a great job of organizing Santa Cruz Night Out.
There is a feeling of empowerment being in the streets with large numbers of people.
"Success" has come in the form of smiles on Pacific Ave., feedback from people involved in Santa Cruz Night Out (organizers, performers, and participants/spectators), amount of customers at the cafes, safety, etc...
Santa Cruz Night Out has demonstrated that the people of the greater Santa Cruz area support free events in public spaces.
The city should rightfully waive as many fees as possible, especially those paid to the police since the police get paid to be on the streets already.
I am glad that many local businesses support. I hope that any acknowledgements (a.k.a. advertising) remains very discreet.
For this event to maintain it special feeling, it must reamain on the streets and strictly limit all commercial advertising.
