Leap Day 2004 - Take Back Santa Cruz!

This year, the month of February has an extra day - Leap Day, Sunday the 29th. This unclaimed, extra day allows a window for us to jump out of the runaway train of modern society. Let this day be a blank canvas, which we can transform into anything our hearts and minds desire for the world we most want to live in. Let us tap into our own wild, fearless creativity to turn the everyday grind of war, capitalism and inequality into a new society based on mutual aid, cooperation, freedom and love. In short, let us use Leap Day as a no-holds-barred day of action to break out of the mold we as activists have been stuck in for far too long.

The call for a day of action on Leap Day is completely open-ended, with nothing off-limits in terms of tactics, goals, or strategies. Some of us have already begun planning a party of sorts, which will take place on Leap Day and will feature creative resistance, anarchist fun and games, and much more. And everyone who wishes Santa Cruz and our society as a whole to become greater, fairer, more equal and free is invited. Bring yourself, any costumes, toys, music, art, and anything else that helps you create the new world within the dying shell of this one.

Converge at 1 PM on Sunday (2/29) at San Lorenzo Park

As Leap Day grows closer, look to this space and all around Santa Cruz to learn more about what we are cooking up. But don't stick just to what we have in store. Let your imagination run wild, for the future is in your hands.

Re: Leap Day 2004 - Take Back Santa Cruz!

Anything I want on the 29th...I know, I think we'll take a trip to santa cruz to stomp some hippies.

Re: Leap Day 2004 - Take Back Santa Cruz!

Lets bring sidewalk chalk and have a civil disobedience hopscotch party!

Take back our town!!!

Let's invite all the street muscicians, tarot readers, jugglers, activists etc to set up downtown.
Remember how Pacific Ave used to be? It was so much fun, creativity and life. This is what has made Santa Cruz famous. Now this town is almost dead! Hardly any life, creativity or expression. BORING. Seriously, this has become Palo Alto by the beach, Silicon Beach.

We need to BREAK OUT of these chains that are slowly being put around our life force, and remind Santa Cruz what LIFE IS REALLY LIKE!!!

So, Here is the idea:

On that "extra" day, (providing no rain) everyone come out and set up downtown and DO YOUR THING!!!

When folks wake up and remember what a living downtown was like, they will DEMAND an end to the repressive "laws" that have all but taken the life out of Santa Cruz.

Re: Leap Day 2004 - Take Back Santa Cruz!

Ahh...but how can I find out about what's already being planned? Is there perhaps a general time that I should know about?

Time/Place Update

We will converge at 1 p.m. on Sunday at San Lorenzo Park. From there we will have all manner of radical fun and games, and much more.

Details to come just as soon as we can get it figured out.

See you on Leap Day!
