Chalk It Up for Real Values

An organization capable of overthrowing the system of imperialist rule cannot be built on a foundation of sand. Only principled, transparent and long-term collaboration between serious activists can:

(1) organize a decisive break from the
confinement of liberal-imperialist politics,
(2) mobilize the masses in their millions and
(3) chart the couse forward to a world without
imperialist war or capitalist exploitation

In July, the City of Santa Cruz (santacruz.indymedia.org/newswire/display/18139/index.php) passed a resolution calling on the governor of California to call for California National Guard troops to be brought home from Iraq so they can be of service here in the United States, as they were intended to be. Our need for their help was never more apparent last week as hundreds of thousands of hurricane victims were stranded with little organized response from the state or federal level. Even FOX News was asking where the National Guard was last Friday!

The current administration in the White House is fast becoming one whose "accomplishments" are measured now more in terms of body bags and the availability of potable water than anything remotely resembling genuine progress. From the streets of Fallujah and Baghdad now to the gulf coast of the United States, the consequences of a White House that worships the supposed miracle solution of "free markets" and digital warfare in all things has finally come full circle.

The entire city of New Orleans is under evacuation orders. I just spoke to my friend Daniel in the Bywater (9th ward). He reports that unmarked police vehicles (cadillacs) are driving through the neighborhood with SWAT team police armed with 'big black machine guns' telling people through bullhorns they are under orders to evacuate and must leave the city now.
