Support the troops? What kind of logic is that - you're saying we should support the criminal even if we condemn the crime?
I'm sure many soldiers do believe in the goodness of what they're doing. Christian extremists, self-styled soldiers in the "Army of God" believe in the goodness of bombing abortion clinics.
Thirteen hijackers believed in the goodness of flying 747s into skyscrapers. They probably considered themselves soldiers - mujahadeen, "holy warriors". They believed in their hearts that what they were doing was for a noble cause.
Being an adult means taking responsibility for the results of one's actions.
