Librarians Make Some Noise Over Patriot Act

In Santa Cruz, Calif., all 10 branches of the library are destroying records daily and recently posted signs warning that the government has new authority to review whatever patrons read. Library officials also are distributing pamphlets that decry the secrecy provisions in the Patriot Act. “How can you tell when the FBI has been in your library?” the pamphlet asks. “You can’t.”
Librarian Anne Turner said that she and many library patrons are frightened more by the threat of losing constitutional rights than by terrorists. “People are angry that the government has this power,” she said. “It can go fishing for anything under this legislation.”

Santa Cruz Civilian Weapons Inspection Team Refused Entry to Lockheed Martin

On Friday, April 11, about sixty members of the Santa Cruz Citizen Weapons Inspections Team visited the Lockheed Martin facility at the top of Empire Grade in Bonny Doon. The goal of the team was to ascertain to what extent that facility is developing weapons of mass destruction.

WE WANT REPRESENTATION! WE SAY NO TO WAR ON IRAQ
We call upon our congressmen to take substantial action to End the War on Iraq.
Our principle demands are:
1) that Sam Farr come out immediately and without qualification against Bush's $75 billion supplemental appropriation ($63 million of which is to conduct the war for the next month), and
2) that Sam Farr come out immediately for supporting our troops by bringing them home, alive, NOW.

Councilmember Mike Rotkin and activist Joe Williams will debate the topic: Sam Farr--Bane or Boon to the Peace Movement.
