"Books Not Bombs" Major Hiroshima Commemoration and Protest 8/8 in Livermore
01 Aug 2004
(Updated)
by Tara Dorabji, Tri-Valley CAREs
Everywhere you look, you see school budgets cut, libraries closed and social programs gutted -- yet funding for nuclear weapons continues to rise. In the City of Livermore, two schools will close while money for nuclear weapons increases at the nearby Livermore Laboratory.
The Livermore nuclear weapons lab has long been the appropriate site for creative, nonviolent resistance to nuclear weapons. It is fitting that we will gather there on Sunday, August 8, to mark the 59th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombings of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On that day, Tri-Valley CAREs and allied groups will host a major rally and march to say: "Books not Bombs."
Stopping the programs at Livermore that enable the creation of new and modified nuclear weapons is essential to achieving global nonproliferation and disarmament. Our August action is part of an international series of events. Join us and tens of thousands around the world to say "NO" to
nuclear weapons and U.S. nuclear policy. Say "YES" to changing our priorities.

Justice for Palestine: Tear Down the Apartheid Wall
12 Jul 2004
by palestine and netherlands indymedia

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, the Netherlands, gave its advisory opinion on the Apartheid Wall in Palestine on July 9th. In light of the recent opinion from the ICJ, the Israeli government is trying to manipulate the truth and disguise the colonial foundation of its racist apartheid policy. It has depicted a decision by its own High Court to move 30km of the Apartheid Wall as a Palestinian “victory, but Palestinians see how, on the contrary, this decision
validates Israel’s claim that the Wall is solely a security measure and how it states that the Wall can be built on Palestinian land.
The Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign calls on all people to remain critical of the ICJ opinion. Help bring the Palestinian grassroots struggle against the Apartheid Wall to the forefront of global action and amplify the claims of those resisting on the ground:
Tear Down the Apartheid Wall!
Stop the Occupation!
Sanctions and Boycott on Apartheid Israel!

"Liberty Bound" goes even further than "Fahrenheit"

Liberty Bound - A US Citizen's journey of discovery into the lies, oppression,
and corruption that has invaded her country since 9/11.
With all the recent press about Michael Moore’s new documentary Fahrenheit 911, very few people have yet to hear about a powerful independent film called Liberty Bound. Very few, that is, except for the large crowd that attended the premiere of the film in Paris on June 23rd.
Christine Rose, the documentary filmmaker, was present to answer questions about the film for over an hour after the screening to an inspired audience of young and old. This is Ms. Rose’s first film; and yet she couldn’t have picked a more powerful subject, or for that matter, a more controversial one. Even though there are similarities among the two films, Rose gets very personal with her investigation. She takes us to her home town and allows us to accompany her on her trip across the US to discover the great loss of liberty the American people have suffered since 9/11. She at once shocks us with her observations, and leaves little doubt that we are living in a different world: a world where the freedoms we once took for granted are becoming more tenuous and harder to hold onto day by day.
With the tremendous success of Moore’s film, which grossed over $21M it’s first weekend out, it's becoming obvious that people all over the world are wanting and needing to see and hear the truth, which is every bit as entertaining and shocking as anything Hollywood releases.

Texas and California Activists Launch Campaigns Opposing University Management Of Weapons Lab
26 Jun 2004
by Stefan Wray

Texas activists oppose the University of Texas’ plans to takeover management of the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, while California activists want the University of California to end its role in managing the lab.
Los Alamos is the birthplace of the atomic bomb and a key Department of Energy (DOE) facility for new work on mini-nukes and bunker buster nuclear
weapons. UC has managed the weapons lab since 1943. But the DOE decided last year to open the management contract to competitive bidding. The
DOE’s National Nuclear Security Administration will issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) schedule “in the near future.
UT Nuke Free will act as a clearinghouse for Texas opposition to the University of Texas' pursuit of the Los Alamos National Laboratory management contract.
The
UC Nuclear Free campaign seeks to end the University of California's role in researching, developing and producing nuclear weapons – weapons
capable of destroying civilization and most life on earth.

The Success Story of the Niger Uranium Documents
Bob Woodward now claims he knows as much as Judith Miller did about the Plame/Rove affair, but kept it under his hat for 2 years.
It was a wise move, worthy of a seasoned pro.
The Plame affair is merely a byproduct of the Niger uranium forgeries.
How did the Niger Documents become such an item?
All I can tell you is whose lips are sealed, and why.
