Splitting the Sky - Speaking on Native Sovereignty
From a backround of orphanages and boarding schools,
Splitting the Sky emerged as a principled leader of the
Attica prison rebellion at the age of ninteen, and later became a major figure with the American Indian Movement. He was founder of the League of Indigenous Sovereign Nations of the Western Hemisphere, has been involved in numerous armed standoffs with the Canadian and US authorities, and after decades of poverty, imprisonment, and repression, he continues to agitate for Native sovereignty and prisoners rights.

Former spokesperson of the underground
Earth Liberation Front. Long time proponent for direct action tactics to defend the earth, animals, and people.

Critical Mass in Santa Cruz on Friday, April 25
24 Apr 2003
by bicyclitic Non-Compliance
Come All Bikers and Petroleum-Free Riders!
Critical Mass in the Streets of Santa Cruz.
Meet at the
Clocktower at
5PM on
Friday, April 25!
It has been far too long since we in Santa Cruz have shown those with whom we share this place, that a culture that continues to hold Capitol as God, that exploits fossil fuels in spite of the clear connection with ecological collapse, is a culture of pathology. We oppose this not with speeches from ivory towers in the theoretical sky, but with Direct Actions of Non-Compliance.
LET'S TAKE THE STREETS ON THE 25TH OF APRIL!

Art and Revolution Helps Residents File Their Taxes
April 15th, tax day. Hundreds of Santa Cruz residents filed into the post office to send off their tax forms, and Art and Revolution, along with other students and community member, were there to meet them.
Dressed as skeletons, continental soldiers, women covered in lace and blood, Bechtel and Halliburton and Uncle Sam, clad fully in American stripes with a huge $ sign on his back and oil containers chained to his feet and hands, they certainly upped the ante on paying their national dues.

March for Peace and Justice to Honor Cesar Chavez in Salinas
22 Apr 2003
by Elia Gonzalez, photos by ~Bradley

More than a thousand farm workers and supporters marched down the streets of east Salinas Sunday with
United Farm Workers President Arturo Rodriguez to celebrate the life of Cesar Chavez and to highlight the need to improve working conditions for farm workers
The march brought together more than a thousand people calling for better wages for farm workers and drivers licenses for immigrants, while highlighting the value of nonviolence in light of the war on Iraq.
Chavez's first major foray into the Salinas Valley began in 1970, when he led a strike by 10,000 Central Coast lettuce and vegetable workers protesting "sweetheart" pacts between growers and the Teamsters Union.

Columbus Day vandalism
On a holiday stroll this Columbus Day morning, as I was ruminating in disgust about the national glorification of a cold-blooded killer, I was surprised and then pleased as I came upon a defaced Santa Cruz Mission. The Mission, a foremost landmark of genocide in the county. Beneath the austere whiteness of the plaster, its walls are sullied with the blood of the native people who once lived here - enslaved, diseased, and exterminated by the thousands in the name of the white man's God.
I walked around the building to get a better look. The plaster walls had been spraypainted and windows were smashed in. Here are a couple pictures.
