Community Support in Algiers, New Orleans

On September 13, the Common Ground collective in Algiers, New Orleans began the day with a meeting to discuss everything from staying healthy to the difference between martial law and a state of emergency. A medic at the wellness center said that the best way to maintain to the health of the community is be sure that everyone washes their hands often and to not share plates and utensils.

A woman in NYC disrobes to display "Stop the War" painted on her body, and a man in Binghamton places 1,800 US Flags in is yard to protest the War in Iraq. But there were many, many more who devoted a few hours to show dissent against the war.

Creativity, Solidarity and Mutual Aid in Algiers, New Orleans

On September 12, Vinny, Blank and I arrived in New Orleans. We are staying in the Algiers neighborhood. Community members and volunteers from coast to coast and Europe, are providing people in New Orleans with food, medical aid and health supplies.

Solidarity Rally With Sunshine Villa Workers on Thursday, September 15, 2005 from 5-6 PM at 80 Front Street in Santa Cruz.
Sunshine Villa is an Assisted Living facility in Santa Cruz. Sunshine Villa Residents have been suffering from short suffing. 80% of Sunshine Villa Workers voted to join SEIU-Local 415 on July 2004. The National Labor Relations Board certified SEIU as the Workers' Union representative on October 2004 since then Sunshine Villa has refused to start negotiating with the Union in good faith .

Sunday, Sept 11 -- Holding signs and distributing literature, several dozen people protested in front of the Catalyst nightclub where reggae artist Sizzla was playing that evening. In his songs and stage dialogue, Sizzla has repeatedly called for buring and shooting queers and he brags of doing it himself.
