As the Bush Administration spits rhetoric about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, ever-increasing numbers are speaking out for peace. In Santa Cruz, about 300 people gathered at the Town Clock on January 29 to voice frustration with the move towards war and the doublespeak of an unelected president. More than a decade ago, when I was writing for what it used to be a progressive grass-roots bilingual newspaper in Watsonville (now a magazine based in Santa Cruz), I had the chance to interview a Vietnam Vet friend who in a nutshell illlustrated his experience in the battleground: "Just imagine experiencing a Loma Prieta Earthquake that goes on for hours, days, and weeks, non-stop!"

ANTI WAR VIGIL 5PM WED. JAN. 29 CLOCK TOWER
I heard from a reliable source that there will be people gathering for peace and against war at 5 PM Wednesday, January 29 at the town clock. This is to voice frustration at Bush's misstate of the union address and is also in solidarity with
