"Fuck the Pigs" Sign Gets Houseless Person a Citation.

During a one week period a couple of weeks ago, John Maurer was given four different citations by the Santa Cruz Police Department, including one for having a sign on his hat saying
"Fuck the Pigs (Police)" while panhandling. As this was the second citation for the same offense, he faces possible misdemeanor charges on the second infraction. In neither case was the offensive sign or language used while soliciting anyone for money.

POLICE VIOLENCE AT CRITICAL MASS!!

On May 30, between 60 and 80 cyclists were peacefully riding down California street when two motorcycle cops singled out a rider and cut off several other cyclists in the process. "Blue Beard" was pulled off his bike and chased across Bay street to the top of Neary Lagoon. When other cyclists arrived he was face down on the ground and badly injured.

Save the Planter Bench at Pacific and Walnut!

On Thursday afternoon, May 22, 2003, a group of activists set up a table (a ‚Äúnon-commercial display device‚Ä? in Cityspeak) and proceeded to hand out flyers and circulated a petition opposing the City Manager‚Äôs plan to eliminate seating from the planter space in front of Costa Brava and the Pacific Trading Company. Assistant City Manager Martin Bernal (420-5010) says that unless a City Councilmember objects, the construction will begin June 6th.
