What is a strike?

A strike is a cessation or witholding of labor by workers in order to force their employer to meet their demands, often for higher pay or improved conditions

In place of our regular monthly issue, we at The Project have put together a little primer on the upcoming strike by service (represented by the AFSCME union) and clerical (the CUE union) workers on April 14th. We hope this paper helps to clarify the issues faced by the workers and the ways in which these issues are connected to student concerns.

On April 6, Santa Cruz Indymedia volunteers presented a free film screening of The Take at Santa Cruz Barrios Unidos. About thirty people showed up and things went pretty smooth overall. The importance of Indymedia was explained and money was collected to help buy a new server for Indybay.
